Outside of math I like making things — with code, with leather, on my feet, and in the kitchen. A few of those below.
Coding
I build small tools and data projects for fun, usually when a question I’m curious about turns out to need some computing to answer.
City Streets is the big one. It treats every city’s street network as a probability measure on \(\mathbb{RP}^2\) — compass bearing crossed with grade — and extends Boeing’s orientation-entropy idea into 3D. It computes rotation-aligned Wasserstein and Jensen–Shannon distances between 84 world cities, along with comparable measures of hilliness, walkability, on-street parking, and staircase-street censuses. It’s a Julia package with an interactive dashboard.

Leatherwork
I make things out of vegetable-tanned leather — wallets, belts, small goods — cutting, stitching, and finishing everything by hand. It’s the same appeal as a clean proof: a small number of simple operations, done carefully, composing into something that holds together.
Boots
I’m into heritage boots and the long, slow way they age — how a pair takes on the shape and marks of the person wearing them. That patina is the whole point, and I’ve spent a fair bit of time coaxing it along.

Food
I bake and cook a good amount — mostly bread. There’s a nice rhythm to it, and like everything else on this page it rewards patience and a little attention to what the material is actually doing.
